Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
