Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior representative said the incident made him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
